she prays for us too*
the friday evening our social worker phoned us to ask when we can pick her up, i just came back from a two hour massage.
a two hour massage, where, when i went to lie down, i cried.
i cried to God. about us not being able to 'just get another child'. i didn't care if we did not get pregnant, why couldn't people who want to adopt children, not 'just get a child'. (i know about all the legal things. trust me, i do). but this night, i wondered and asked God and wanted to know why we could not just get another child. this not knowing. the hoping and trusting and wanting to believe, but you don't know how long you can still 'hold on'. it's endless. it breaks your heart. every moment you have to hold on and cling to the promise that your baby is on her/his way, every new morning you get up, you hold on some more, but your heart breaks a little bit more too.
it usually takes me about 20 minutes to relax into the massage...
i remember crying, praying...
and then total surrender.

i remember telling Him that i cannot do this anymore. i cannot hold on and believe that our baby is on his/her way. i'm tired.
i remember thinking 'i don't know what to do anymore, i surrender. totally and wholeheartedly, i surrender. He must do what He wants to do. i can't do this anymore'.
i closed my eyes and relaxed into the massage, with an indescribable sadness lingering within.
2,5 hours later she phoned. and she asked: 'when can you be back in south africa to pick up your little girl?'
just like that. today i can say just like that. returning to the waiting, especially now, being within the waiting again, it's heart wrenching. it's playing with your emotions daily, trying to stay in the present and make each moment count with the people around you.
but
you do hold onto that hope.
you trust. big time. not just because you need Him. you trust because He is the truth, the way.
you believe that He has big plans for your life.
you know that He wants only good things for your life and
you feel your other children is out there, waiting for you.
you can feel it.
we prayed for years for our little girl too. in october 2010 i wrote a letter to 'our beautiful baby' under a tree in the shade, not even knowing that she was on her way. already growing in her birth mama's tummy.
but i could feel her in my heart.
she won't go to sleep at night before we did not pray. and it is kneeling-down-on-your-knees, hands-together-praying.
she prays:

where have I been?
my first born went to year 2. we were both a bit apprehensive and scared for the changes and the new things, but he was brave and willing to take on the new challenges.
this little muffet started a new school and LOVES it. amazing what a difference experienced teachers make to your child's life.
i am so in love with that little lips..the way she pulls her mouth when she concentrates... adorable.
she loves play dough and trying new things...
Robin Hood went to school... he was quite the man :-)

his new class and everyone was game for some fun in book week
the year 8 children came down to their class to read with them...
i still cannot believe that my son can read.... amazing
we helped Kellen's teacher to decorate the front of their class for the book week door competition...
and we won!

smiling big*
our hearts are full...
we spent 4 weeks with cousins + godchildren + sisters + brothers + fathers + mothers = family.
it was loud and busy and real and funny and a few fights and lots of laughter.
loads of memories.
we went to the seaside, open planes of the knersvlakte and the beautiful winelands.
we spent all our time with grandparents, cousins and friends.
trying to get as close as possible to them without another cousin jumping in between.
smiling from ear to ear, sleeping off the jet lag, unpacking and smiling,
remembering every moment in our country.

cousins*
one of the few moments of standing still... in silence...just hearing the wind blowing around us...
these four have been busy and loud and awake! and alive!
we may (or may not) have given them a little something to stand against the wall and smile...
but the suspense and eagerness to get up and run?
they are on the go all the time.
in this moment i'm sitting in the bathroom with my laptop.
i locked the door.
all the kids (6 in total), in the lounge with the family...
the silence in here, truly is golden.

ok...
ready to enter the madhouse
of love and laughter!

i've dreamed of this madness...of kids running around, noise, lots of it, in reality something that sounds like chaos, but it's such happiness!!! being with these people was crazy and loud and funny and not funny and tiring and exhilarating... it was kids crying and kids fighting and laughter that ended in tears, kids saying they are hungry and mom's looking at each other...silence... 'no, not serious', continuing the same conversation for the 10th time. it was a dream coming true.
i thrive and come alive with many kids around me... my heart expands and fills up all at once... it's crazy and bizarre...
it's hard too. and challenging. and 'i-don't-know-what-i'm-doing' hard, it's guessing and trusting and believing that you are teaching them the right things. it's repeating and reminding and smiling and praying for patience... reminding yourself in their moment of overwhelm 'be the parent, be the parent'... don't over-react'... breath out... hard i tell you. to get that balance right... it's hard.
but i would not change one thing.... except having more kids :-)

re-entering*
friends of mine who attend retreats in america always talks about 're-entering' their lives after attending such said retreat. it surely feels as if i'm re-entering kuala lumpur on an emotional level.
yesterday was all about gratitude and love for our families and friends in south africa, of the opportunity we were given to live overseas, of coming 'home' with all the photos and videos and memories of the most amazing 3 weeks spent in our country. of possibilities and even more opportunities that this year can hold for us.
yesterday i was literally riding the wave of (emotional) joy and happiness. my heart was full.

today, my heart is full.
but the emotions are different. the gratitude is still there. the memories are overpowering good, but i put myself in a situation today where i had to be brave and step up for what i believe in and it felt like being brave was too hard to do. i burst out in tears. it was feelings of leaving my family and friends in south africa, of choosing to live so far away. of my children asking where their cousins and grand-parents are and we acting as if it is normal to live so far apart. feelings of getting back in routine, of being strong and brave and supporting my children where they can not. of raising them to be responsible, wild and free little ones within the cultural acceptance here in malaysia.

feelings of missing my mom and knowing that should i ever return to her home, the house we grew up in, there will be nothing of her. nothing. she now only lives in our memories. feelings of life that goes on for others and me who still want to hold onto her things... her clothes, her books... things that reminded me of her. the only thing i could find of my mom (between everything that was going to be thrown away) was her wedding dress. i packed it in. it is here, with me in malaysia. sounds crazy. grief is crazy. totally totally weird.

but today, to be brave and far from the people that ground you and challenge you and fill your heart with joy, to realise you are here, and only you can make the choices as to how you are going to live this one and precious life, alone, was hard.
and then we go to bed.
we wake up tomorrow morning.
and a new day has begun xx

home*
Our hearts are full!
Yesterday we arrived home after a 21 hour flight from South Africa! (the kids were angels).
We realised (again) how much we love our country.
We know how much we are loved by our families.
We look forward to the day that we pack our belongings and go back to South Africa for good.
We had 3 weeks of tremendous laughter! and giggles, of cousins and connections that only happens in families, (that thing about 'ties that bind' - yes!), weeks of sea and sand and blue blue skies, of colder weather (which we loved!), of beskuit (rusks) and meat and potjiekos and lots of wine, weeks of going to bed late at night and getting up early to capture the day (not! the kids woke up early..hehe). We had the most amazing 3 weeks with our families in our home country, South Africa.
Just before we left we were contacted by a lady to adopt a baby boy... unfortunately he has been adopted by another family and we are excitingly waiting for our baby. Praying that he/she will arrive at exactly the right time as we know that God knows every little and big detail.
I will post more about all of the above in the next few weeks.

gratitude for simple things*
i was going to write a post on connecting with your babies/children before you have met them after reading this beautiful written post by Stacy...and then i thought maybe that is too much for a friday.
what i can say, is that the other day i was reading in Romans and God said: 'if you believe in Me, I will not disappoint you'. this is the promise i'm holding on to until we meet our other children. i believe in God and prayer and would like to invite you to pray with us that we will find our way to our children.
the first post was about connecting with them, moving onto adoption, moving onto very very deep thoughts... but let's rather enjoy this beautiful day in simple ways... enjoying these two silly things with a heart full full full and literally flowing over.
running to the park...
bella wants to run to the park... on the side walk, very close to the road...she likes to challenge (me) herself and see how far she can go before i strap her up in the stroller... and kellen... he just cycles on and shows us the way...
they know the path to the park and are showing me where to go...
(notice bella is still running..hehe)
she is a little tree hugger... walk with us on the day that she decides today every tree along the road will get a hug...it takes for ever...but with every hug, she gives a huge aaaaaaa... as to really show her love.
one of these days i will have to pay him to smile at the camera...
the two of them...they have my heart. they are best friends. when they wake up in the mornings they look for each other first... hugs and kisses.... he is definitely her favorite person on earth... and she does everything he does...
when we play 'tag' (when last did you play tag? help me... )... this is the face i get when i cannot catch him... he thinks the fact that he is faster than i am, is hilarious.
we played hide-and-seek in the park (when last did you play hide-and-seek? most amazing experience to see the joy on their faces...) bella does not get the whole hide-and-seek thing yet..she giggles and jumps up and scream and then falls down again... never hide with bella close to you! this was her face when she jumped up to give her 'hiding place' away and i told her she was suppose to be quiet...she was hiding in the slide. quite clever.
when did this happen. this baby girl climbs onto the see-saw and stands on top of the seat, trying to balance standing without holding onto anything. i could only take the first photo because my heart nearly stopped when i realised she is trying to stand on the seat
she looks at the camera and say 'cheese'...
he has such a soft and kind heart.... when meeting new friends he gets a bit quieter and just smiles...
but he is a fierce tree-hugger!
ummm... yes. you can't catch me! (she does everything her big brother does).
and when they are tired, they literally just fell down, lie on their backs and rest! he calls it 'telling cloud stories mama'.
